The Pocono Mountains offer almost unlimited fishing possibilities for both the novice and the expert.

List of Waters Open for Public Fishing

Pocono hybred bassSome of Pennsyvania's best trout streams are in our area. The season starts with shad fishing in the Delaware. The 40 miles of river from Portland up to Milford are both bank and boat accessible. Check out the national park information centers for access and rules.

The season continues in the spring with the opening of trout season on the second saturday in April (for us a National Holiday). There are ponds and lakes open to the public during this time for public fishing. Try Brady's Lake, Peck's Pond, Hidden Lake, Lake Wallenpaupack, and Promised Land.

The best streams for April trout fishing are; The Brodhead from Analomink to Stroudsburg. There is limited access below Stroudsburg to the Delaware, but this section has mostly hold-over trout and can be worth the effort. Walk down the old railroad bed south of Glen Park. The McMichaels Creek with its easy access and abundance of fish. Pocono Creek has limited access and a section with special regulations. Try the Bushkill a little later on in the season and into early summer for its best fishing.

The Bushkill is also the best spot for stream fly fishing in the section owned by the Boy Scouts of America. A special permit is required from the Council.

The highlight of Fly fishing, though, is the section of the West Branch of the Delaware River which sports the "Best Wild Trout Fishing East of The Rockies". The temperature is consistantly right and the water pure and clean. This spot is about one mile above (on the river) Hancock, NY. If your an expert or someone wanting to improve your skills try lessons at Al Caucci's Delaware River Club Fly Fishing Resort. 1-800-6MAYFLY. Good luck!
